DESCRIPTION AND NOMENCLATURE OF PLIED YARNS
GLASS FILAMENT YARNS consist of a defined number of E-glass filaments of certain nominal diameter, which are brought together to form a yarn. The structure of the yarn is fixed and protected by size and a slight twist, generally in Z-direction.
GLASS PLIED YARNS are made from two or more single yarns which have been combined in a second twisting operation. Generally the twist level dosen't exceed 180 turns per meter (4.6turns/inch). For certain application, however, such as fabrics for filtration of molten aluminium the twist level required may be significantly higher, perhaps up to 300 turns per meter( 7.6turns/inch)
Remarks: Glass plied yarns can be twisted together in a third twist operation to give a cabled yarn. A cabled yarn with "n ends means that n plied yarns were combined for its construction. These products are not standard but available on demand.
